Jake was a 2017 graduate of Lorena High School. After graduating, Jake went on to graduate from the fire academy at McLennan Community College, where he excelled with honors. Jake's dream of becoming a firefighter became a reality when he joined the Jarrell Fire Department in 2018.
His smile and kind heart were infectious. He loved the Lord, his family and friends and took great pride in his career as a firefighter. He had a servant's heart and always put others' needs before himself.
This scholarship will be awarded to a compassionate individual who demonstrates a passion for community service and is committed to pursuing a career in Firefighting, EMT, or Paramedic.
This years Jake Owen "Servant's Heart" Scholarship was awarded to two dedicated and compassionate high school seniors - one from Lorena High School and the other from Jarrell High School. Both recipients submitted thoughtful applications and handwritten essays expressing their passion for serving others and their commitment to pursuing careers as first responders.
The Lorena Scholarship was presented by The Owen Family. Craig Owen, Jake's father and firefighter, Teresa Owen, mother, Bailey Owen - Grimm, sister, and Zane Grimm, brother in law.
The Jarrell Scholarship was presented by a group of Jake's fellow firefighters from the Jarrell Fire Department, honoring his memory and continuing his legacy of service.
